Illustrator NAGANO's beloved series Chiikawa sent fans into a frenzy last November with the announcement of its first-ever theatrical anime film, Chiikawa: Secret of Mermaid Island.
Today (2/26), the official channels dropped the release date, confirming it hits the big screen on July 24, 2026, along with its very first teaser trailer!
The "Chiikawa: Secret of Mermaid Island" film adapts NAGANO-sensei's specially crafted, feature-length "Mermaid Island Arc"—a uniquely styled long-form narrative within the series. When the original manga chapter dropped, it consistently trended on social media and remains one of the most iconic arcs for fans.
Animation duties are handled by CygamesPictures, the studio behind the "Uma Musume Pretty Derby: New Gateway" anime film. With NAGANO-sensei's full supervision, Chiikawa's adventure is set to be brought to life with a grand score and even more stunning visuals.
Fans are undoubtedly hyped to see how Chiikawa's big-screen debut will unfold, so keep an eye out for more official updates!
