KOTOBUKIYA, a Japanese model manufacturer, has announced the latest product in its "ARTFX J" series, which brings popular Japanese ACG characters to life in three dimensions. The new item, "Katsuya Jonouchi -The Fierce Duelists-" from the popular anime "Yu-Gi-Oh!", is scheduled for release in September 2026.
Katsuya Jonouchi, a classmate of protagonist Yugi Muto, was originally a delinquent who enjoyed fighting and bullying classmates. He once looked down on Yugi and stole pieces of the "Millennium Puzzle," which Yugi treasured, throwing them into the river. However, Yugi still considered him a friend and defended Jonouchi when he was targeted by disciplinary committee member Tetsu Ushio. Deeply moved, Jonouchi became Yugi's closest friend. Although impulsive and thick-headed, he values friendship immensely. To raise money to cure his sister Shizuka's near-blindness, he was willing to accept any cost and challenge, which became the catalyst for his decision to become a "duelist."
The "ARTFX J Katsuya Jonouchi -The Fierce Duelists-" figure is crafted in a 1/7 scale, standing approximately 22 cm tall. Its design is based on a newly drawn "Yu-Gi-Oh!" 25th-anniversary illustration by animator Takahiro Kagami, bringing Jonouchi in his "Battle City Arc" attire to life. It meticulously captures his confident smile, the wrinkles in his full outfit, the detailed design of his Duel Disk, and the powerful musculature of his hands, all enhanced with color application to express variations in light and shadow.
