Japanese toy company TAKARA TOMY's popular toy series "ZOIDS" announced the latest product, "AZ-14 Liger Zero X," from its modern technology remake series, "ADVANCED Zi SERIES," which was unveiled for the brand's 40th anniversary. It is scheduled for release in late September 2026.
The lion-type Zoid "RZ-041 Liger Zero" is unlike Zoids typically equipped with an OS; it was developed by the Guylos Empire based on a "complete wild body" and possesses its most distinctive Changing Armor System (CAS), which allows it to swap armor and weapons to suit different environments and tactical needs. The "Liger Zero X" released this time is a specialized CAS that was independently developed by the Republic Army after capturing an Imperial Army prototype and then leveraging the enemy's development plans. It is equipped with highly stealthy optical camouflage and numerous powerful electric shock armaments.
The "AZ-14 Liger Zero X" is based on the previously released AZ-02 Liger Zero frame and utilizes a large number of new parts to recreate the design of its back-mounted high-electromagnetic sword, various power storage devices, and generators. Not only are high-density details etched onto the surface of the parts, reproducing the mechanical component structure, but the size of each armor piece has also been adjusted to accommodate the power mechanism, preventing interference with articulation. When activated, it can reproduce the deployment of various weapon mechanisms and perform a lifelike walking action.
Once the internal motor is activated, the Liger Zero X can walk like a feline, and its head, tail, back-mounted high-electromagnetic sword, and other areas will swing as it walks. Combined with the LED lighting mechanism in its head's twin eyes and internal chest core, it expresses the realism of a metallic lifeform. Furthermore, most parts of its body feature manually adjustable articulated joints, such as the opening cockpit in the head, the movable fairings on both sides of the head, and the deployment of transparent armor on its limbs. These allow for posing it in a stance ready to fire its high-voltage beam cannon.
TAKARA TOMY will also release the "AZ-14EX Liger Zero Exclusive X Unit" separately, which includes only the new sculpted parts. If you already own the "AZ-02 Liger Zero" main body, you can use this set of parts to directly transform it into the Liger Zero X.
