Following two hit seasons of the TV anime, the isekai light novel series The Eminence in Shadow by Daisuke Aizawa is officially heading to the big screen. After the second season wrapped up in late 2023, a movie adaptation of the "Lost Echoes" arc was announced.
During a stage event at AnimeJapan 2026 today (March 29), it was officially confirmed that the franchise's first feature film, The Eminence in Shadow: Lost Echoes, will premiere in 2027! A second teaser trailer, a key visual, and a story synopsis were also unveiled.

The "Lost Echoes" arc, based on Volume 4 of the light novel, will see Cid and Beta transported back to Japan. They discover that Earth has been ravaged by monsters, its civilization destroyed. The surviving humans now live in scattered strongholds, relying on magically awakened knights to fight back, kicking off a brand-new storyline.

The main voice cast was also announced, with Yukari Tamura joining as the new character Yuuka Asakura. The cast shared their thoughts on the upcoming film.
▼ Seiichiro Yamashita (Cid Kagenou / Shadow)
It’s been almost two years since "Lost Echoes" was first announced... thank you all for waiting so patiently! Of course, I'm thrilled we can finally share this news, but producing an anime, especially a movie, is no simple task. Still, the fact that we have such high expectations just proves how amazing the original work and the anime are.
Thanks to all the events for The Eminence in Shadow, I've never forgotten about Shadow, the Seven Shades, or any of you, and I've been able to keep honing my craft. For me, "Lost Echoes" feels like both a reunion and a culmination of everything so far. I'll be performing alongside some incredibly talented veterans, and we have plenty of "hidden aces" up our sleeves! It's a huge relief to finally get this information out, so please look forward to more updates!

▼ Yui Horie (Akane Nishino)
In the TV anime, I only appeared twice—in the first episode of Season 1 and the last episode of Season 2—so I was genuinely surprised to hear I'd be in the movie (laughs). How will Shadow and Akane interact this time? I hope everyone will pay close attention and look forward to seeing how their relationship develops!

▼ Inori Minase (Beta)
This movie picks up right from the final scene of the second season. Since it's a movie, I was a little nervous at first... but after recording, I realized that no matter where she is, Beta is still Beta, which was very reassuring (laughs). Her interactions with Lord Shadow have that same familiar, slightly-off-kilter rhythm. I had a blast performing, thinking, "Yes, this is it!"
In addition to Beta's usual cute and cool sides, you'll get to see an even "crazier" side of her this time (laughs). And since the story is set in Japan, the atmosphere will be different from what you've seen before. Please look forward to it!

▼ Yukari Tamura (Yuuka Asakura)
This was my first time working on The Eminence in Shadow, so I didn't really know what to expect at first, but I had a wonderful time. The character Yuuka-sensei seems gentle, but she's also quite assertive, which makes her a very rewarding role to play. I hope all the fans will wait for the premiere with great anticipation!

▼ Takehito Koyasu (Mordred)
I know what you're all thinking: "Wait, didn't you already get killed off in the TV series?" Yes, I did indeed disappear from the TV show. So why am I back for the movie? —I have no idea! (laughs)
Is it due to the love of a certain mysterious figure, or is the will of the universe at play? In any case, it seems Mordred will grace the screen once again! Please look forward to my magnificent return!

Some fans have noted that the "Return to Japan" arc in the light novel might not be long enough for a full feature film, leaving many curious to see how animation studio Nexus and director Kazuya Nakanishi will adapt the material. Fans of the series are undoubtedly hyped for the movie, so stay tuned for more official updates!
