"Sgt. Frog" (Keroro Gunso) is making a triumphant return! To celebrate its 20th anime anniversary, a brand-new theatrical film, "New Movie ☆ Sgt. Frog: Resurrected and Immediately Facing Earth's Demise!" has been announced, marking the franchise's first movie in 16 years.
During the "Keroro Gunso's Keror! Radio" stage event at "Anime Japan 2026" today (3/29), officials confirmed the film will hit theaters on June 26th. They also dropped details on two crucial new Keronian characters: the "Aruru & Deruru Brothers."
This new film, "New Movie ☆ Sgt. Frog: Resurrected and Immediately Facing Earth's Demise!", is part of the anime's 20th-anniversary celebration. Fumihiro Yoshizaki is directing, Tomoshi Koike is handling character design, and Bandai Namco Filmworks is producing the animation. It's practically a reunion of the original dream team!
The voice cast is also back in full force, with Kumiko Watanabe reprising her role as Keroro, among others. Plus, comedic maestro Yuichi Fukuda is on board as scriptwriter and chief director, promising a chaotic, classic "Sgt. Frog" vibe that fans will love.
The newly introduced characters, "Aruru" (アルル) and "Deruru" (デルル), are Keronian brothers. The official word is they're absolutely central to the entire story. And get this – there's a hint they might have some past connection to the Keroro Platoon members!
Scriptwriter and chief director Yuichi Fukuda couldn't help but playfully vent on stage, saying the staff kept telling him, "You can't say this, you can't spoil that!" leaving him with just "They're very important characters" XD. He tried to elaborate on their relationships but got stuck mid-sentence, eventually laughing it off with, "Well, they're definitely going to talk to the platoon, otherwise how would the plot move forward?!" The whole event was a riot!
Here's a crucial tidbit: while this movie features the original voice cast, officials also announced a brand-new "Sgt. Frog" TV anime is coming in Fall 2026, and for that, all voice roles will be recast. So, if you're craving that classic voice acting, this new movie might be your last chance to hear the original crew!
While the June 26th release date is locked in, a trailer hasn't dropped yet. Fans, you might have to hold tight just a little longer!
