Akihito Tsukushi's hit anime and manga series, Made in Abyss, announced last August that it would be getting a theatrical film series. The first installment is titled "Made in Abyss: The Secret of Awakening" (tentative translation, メイドインアビス目覚める神秘).
Now, at today's (3/29) "Anime Japan 2026" event, the official release date has been locked in for October 23, 2026! A brand-new key visual was also unveiled. This new movie is a direct sequel to the Made in Abyss series, picking up right after the events of the TV anime's second season.

The newly revealed key visual features familiar faces like Riko, Reg, Nanachi, and Faputa, with the shadowy figure of Glariva lurking in the background.

"Made in Abyss: The Secret of Awakening" will follow Riko and her companions as they venture into the sixth layer, the "Capital of the Unreturned," after the harrowing events of the fifth layer and their encounter with Bondrewd. There, they discover the "Village of the Hollows" (Narehate Village), a community with its own unique culture and values, and meet the pivotal character Faputa.
As the village crumbles, the group, now with Faputa, pushes even deeper, aiming for the uncharted seventh layer. This new theatrical film is set to kick off that brand-new, perilous adventure.

This marks the first animated sequel in four years since the second season, and bringing it directly to the big screen means fans can brace themselves for an even more intense and immersive Abyss experience. With a whole theatrical series planned, it's clear the production scale is getting a massive upgrade compared to the previous TV anime.
Many fans have been eagerly awaiting this animated continuation, and with more installments likely on the horizon, keep an eye out for future official announcements!
