Get ready, SAO fans! Yuna, the virtual idol from "Sword Art Online The Movie -Ordinal Scale-" (originally voiced by Sayaka Kanda, now by Risa Matsuda), is officially holding her first-ever live concert.
And here's the awesome twist: in the movie, Yuna's concert was set for April 29, 2026. Now, in a mind-blowing move, the real world is actually hosting "Yuna First Live" on that exact same date! It's like the film's timeline is literally leaping into reality.
For those who need a refresher, Yuna is a beloved virtual singer who debuted in "Sword Art Online The Movie -Ordinal Scale-." She was the first augmented reality (AR) idol to win hearts in the "OS" system, boasting immense popularity and a playful, lively personality. Even in the heat of battle, she maintained a cheerful and resilient demeanor. In the game, encountering her stage granted players "special effects" and awarded the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of that battle. She's also revealed to be an original SAO player and the daughter of university professor Tetsuhiro Shigemura.
Yuna's original singing and speaking voice were provided by the late voice actress Sayaka Kanda, whose performances left a huge impression on many fans. However, in 2023, the official team announced that if Yuna appears in new works, Risa Matsuda would take over the character's voice acting, while Kanda's previously recorded songs would continue to be used.
The movie first hit theaters on February 18, 2017. Now, approximately nine years later, the in-film date of "April 29, 2026" is finally aligning with the real world.
The official SAO X (formerly Twitter) account has already announced: "Yuna First Live 2026.4.29 17:00." The concert will be livestreamed on the Aniplex official YouTube channel at 5 PM JST on that day.
Fans are buzzing with anticipation for what kind of stage production this "real-world 2026" Yuna concert will deliver. Many are also feeling a wave of nostalgia for the late Sayaka Kanda. While Risa Matsuda is confirmed to take over, this live event still holds special meaning for all fans as it brings a beloved anime moment to life.
