CoMix Wave Films, the animation studio behind blockbusters like "Your Name." and "Suzume," recently dropped a voice acting clip featuring singer-artist ano for their upcoming short animated film, "Shiranui." And let's just say, the internet is buzzing!
"Shiranui" is set in the late summer of 1996, following Minato, a 10-year-old boy living with his alcoholic father. After making a wish to the mysterious "Shiranui" light, rumored to grant one desire, his simple wish spirals into a fantastical journey that slowly turns into a curse.
One of the film's biggest talking points is singer-artist ano lending her voice to the protagonist, Minato. Known for her distinctive style and instantly recognizable voice, ano completely shatters expectations in the official X (formerly Twitter) voice acting clip, revealing a side of her vocal talent no one saw coming.
After hearing the clip, netizens flooded the comments, with many exclaiming, "If I just watched the screen, I'd have no idea that was ano…" "Even knowing it's her, I still can't hear ano's voice at all; it's definitely a boy's voice," "ano's boy voice is insane, truly professional!" and "She's not just a great singer; she's amazing at expressing emotions too."

ano, in an interview, shared that this is her first time tackling a young boy character. She initially worried if she could pull it off, so she experimented with various vocalizations beforehand. Despite facing numerous challenges, she gained invaluable experience throughout the process.
"Shiranui" is slated to hit Japanese theaters on August 21, 2026. With its blend of coming-of-age themes, family drama, and fantastical elements, plus ano's debut as a young boy, this film is definitely one to watch!
