US toy manufacturer Sideshow Collectibles has unveiled a formidable new Marvel Comics-themed addition to its Premium Format series: the "Doctor Octopus" 1/4 Scale Collectible Statue. Priced at US$885, this impressive piece is now available for pre-order on the official Sideshow website, with an estimated shipping window between April and August 2027.
Otto Octavius, one of Spider-Man's most iconic villains, was once a brilliant nuclear physicist. Inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's "Vitruvian Man" sketch, he engineered a harness equipped with four powerful mechanical tentacles. During an accidental radiation leak that caused an explosion, the tentacle apparatus fused with Otto's body. The radiation's effects mutated his brain, granting him direct mental control over the tentacles, but also driving him to madness and transforming him into the nefarious "Doctor Octopus."
This "Doctor Octopus" 1/4 scale collectible statue boasts impressive dimensions, standing 73.5 cm (29 inches) tall, 41.8 cm (16.5 inches) wide, and 42.7 cm (16.8 inches) deep. Crafted from polystone and mixed media, it faithfully recreates his classic green and yellow comic book costume while subtly integrating modern mechanical design elements. The sculpting meticulously captures his robust and muscular physique, the intricate folds of his attire, his villainous smirk, and the fine details on his belt. The main figure is dynamically supported by its feet and two incredibly detailed mechanical arms. The realistic base draws inspiration from "Octavius Industries" as seen in the comics, blending it with Greenwich architectural styles. This not only pays homage to the story's setting but also echoes New York's architectural aesthetics, perfectly complementing the encircling mechanical arms to create an overwhelmingly oppressive villainous presence!
