Hong Kong-based toy manufacturer threezero is celebrating the 40th anniversary of "Transformers: The Movie" with a brand-new release in its MDLX line of small-scale mecha action figures: the "Optimus Prime (1986 Movie Edition)"! This highly anticipated collectible is priced at US$99.90 and is slated for a Q4 2026 release.
The 1986 animated film "Transformers: The Movie" served as a cinematic continuation of the original 1984 G1 animated series. Set in 2005, the narrative plunges into a grim future where the Decepticons have once again seized control of Cybertron. As the Autobots prepare a counter-offensive to reclaim their homeworld, a devastating Decepticon assault leads to the tragic sacrifice of Optimus Prime and many other heroes. The remaining Autobots, now led by the newly appointed Rodimus Prime, are forced to face the ultimate cosmic threat: the planet-devouring entity, Unicron!
Standing approximately 17.8 cm (7 inches) tall, this "Optimus Prime (1986 Movie Edition)" figure appears to build upon the sculpt of the classic animated version released in 2024, but distinguishes itself with a brand-new, movie-accurate head sculpt. Internally, it features a robust die-cast zinc alloy and engineering-grade plastic frame, while externally, threezero Art Director Kelvin Sau's reinterpretation brings intricate mechanical details to the classic animation's iconic, yet simplified, design.
The paint application meticulously recreates the film's vibrant, saturated colors, notably featuring a repainted red backpack to accurately reflect Optimus Prime's on-screen appearance. As for accessories, the figure comes packed with five pairs of interchangeable hands, his iconic Energy Axe, a Blaster Rifle, and the revered Matrix of Leadership, a symbol of his command. With 48 points of articulation, this figure offers dynamic posing possibilities, perfect for recreating memorable scenes alongside the previously announced Bumblebee and Megatron. As an added bonus, each figure includes an exclusive character card illustrated by the celebrated animation artist Nobuyoshi Habara, making this a truly essential collectible!
