Japanese capsule toy brand KITAN CLUB (キタンクラブ) is set to release a brand-new series of "Figure Mascot" gashapon based on the classic cat manga, "What's Michael?". This collection brings fan-favorite characters like Michael, Poppo, and Nyajira to life as three-dimensional figures. The series features a total of 5 unique designs, each including a ball chain for attaching to bags or personal items. These charming figures are scheduled to launch on August 21, 2026, with each capsule priced at 500 Japanese Yen.
First serialized in 1984 by manga artist Makoto Kobayashi, "What's Michael?" is a beloved classic centered around Michael, a dancing orange cat, and his imaginative daily life with his human owners. The series has been adapted into anime, video games, and even a TV drama. KITAN CLUB recently released a full set of seven "What's Michael? Acrylic Charms" gashapon in June 2026, at which time they teased the development of 3D figures. Now, Michael and the gang are finally making their official leap from flat illustrations to fully sculpted collectibles.
This delightful lineup features the white cat Poppo, the orange tabby Michael, and the exceptionally plump calico cat Nyajira. All three felines are captured in dynamic, dancing poses with outstretched limbs, meticulously reproducing their fur patterns, paw pads, and the slightly comical expressions from the original manga. The collection also includes a special Michael figure in a blue school uniform, as well as a charming Maneki-Neko (beckoning cat) version of Michael, perfectly encapsulating the unique humor of "What's Michael?".
