Doraemon the Movie: Nobita's Steam-Powered Time Machine Steams into Theaters Spring 2027 for a 19th-Century London Adventure!

Fujiko F. Fujio's timeless classic, Doraemon, continues to prove its enduring charm with annual theatrical releases consistently hitting big at the box office.

Today, July 24, marks the official announcement for the 46th installment in the "Doraemon the Movie" series, titled "Doraemon the Movie: Nobita's Steam-Powered Time Machine" (Japanese: 映画ドラえもん のび太の蒸気時間車). It's set to premiere in Spring 2027, and fans are already buzzing thanks to a brand-new super teaser video and a captivating teaser visual that hint at the film's exciting world.

This latest adventure transports Doraemon, Nobita, and their pals from 21st-century Japan straight into 19th-century London, England. Get ready for a brand-new, original story that revolves around the mysterious concept of "time."

Taking the director's chair for the first time in the "Doraemon the Movie" series is Rushio Moriyama, who has been a key part of the Doraemon TV anime production since 2020, directing numerous episodes.

Moriyama shared his excitement, stating, " 'Steam-Powered Time Machine' races through an exhilarating story of steam and time. For me, this project feels like going back to the excitement and anticipation I felt as a child reading 'Doraemon Long Stories' for the first time. It's as if I've embarked on my own time travel journey to create this film."

The screenplay is penned by Makoto Ueda, the head of the theater company Europe Kikaku. Ueda is renowned for his time- and sci-fi-themed works, including "The Tatami Time Machine Blues" and "Bend! Spoon." While he previously contributed to the 2024 Doraemon birthday special, "Nobita and the Legend of the Greek Cake," this marks his debut as a screenwriter for a theatrical Doraemon film.

When asked about the choice of 19th-century London as the setting, Makoto Ueda explained, "Because it was where steam engines developed and where the time machine was born. In other words, it is the birthplace of time." He added, "We often find ourselves chasing time, constrained by it in our daily lives. But time can also be reversed, pursued, or simply enjoyed by the river of time. Come aboard the Steam-Powered Time Machine and let's embark on this adventure together!"

With 19th-century London as the backdrop, fans are eagerly awaiting more details about the brand-new adventure that awaits Doraemon, Nobita, and their friends.
