Gifu Prefecture's Landmark: A Char's Custom Zaku Stands Guard 24/7 on the National Route, Even Google Maps Points to This Pilgrimage Site!

A new landmark in Fukuoka-cho, Nakatsugawa City, Gifu Prefecture, Japan, has been making waves on X (formerly Twitter) recently. But this isn't some natural wonder or bizarre phenomenon; it's a massive statue of a Char's Custom Zaku, perched on a steel frame, rifle in hand, seemingly aiming at the cars whizzing by on the adjacent national route.

After being shared by Japanese netizens, many exclaimed, "I can't believe it's guarding traffic here!" and expressed their eagerness to visit this unique spot.

This Char's Custom Zaku is located along National Route 257 in Fukuoka-cho, Nakatsugawa City, Gifu Prefecture. Much like the fixed speed cameras lining the road, it "monitors" passing vehicles 24/7 (lol). What's more, this Char's Custom Zaku can now even be found on Google Maps!

According to netizens, this "Char's Custom Zaku" display was first installed in December two years ago. It appears to have been part of a local illumination event that featured a space colony theme, which explains the Zaku's seemingly floating effect. From its appearance, it seems to be made from styrofoam or similar foamed materials.

Currently, it's set up on a steel frame with a special base that reads "Traffic Safety," "Please Fasten Your Seatbelt," and "No Distracted Driving," effectively turning it into a traffic safety ambassador along the national route.

On Google Maps, it's listed as "Char's Zaku," and the reviews, mostly written within the last six months, show that many riders and drivers have been pleasantly surprised to stumble upon it in such an unexpected location.

It just goes to show that Japan is full of these quirky landmarks. A Char's Custom Zaku just chilling by a not-so-bustling national route – it'd be hard not to get distracted driving past it, wouldn't it? XD
