The "Usagi Rap" from the first theatrical anime film, "Chiikawa the Movie: The Secret of the Mermaid Island", has been an absolute sensation! Not only was its animation outstanding, but the song itself is incredibly catchy. Now, it's available on Japan's professional karaoke service, JOYSOUND, and fans are flocking to sing it.
Recently, JOYSOUND released its latest "New Song Trend Ranking" (for September 4th-10th), and in a stunning turn of events, both versions of the "Usagi Rap" snagged the #1 and #2 spots! This incredible achievement has sparked a frenzy across Japanese social media, with many jokingly declaring that "Chiikawa has conquered the karaoke world too."
The chart-topper was the movie's insert song, "Usagi Rap (Those With a Sense of Rhythm Version)," performed by Usagi, Momonga, and Mermaid. Right behind it at #2 was another rendition of the same track, "Usagi Rap (Solo Version)," featuring Usagi and Mermaid.
This means that a single song, simply by having different versions, completely swept the top two positions on the charts—a truly rare and impressive feat.
Coming in at #3 was M!LK's new song, "Across the Universe," followed by "Kanata," the theme song for "Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie: Rebellion," at #4. Even powerhouse artists like Ado and Snow Man, who typically dominate the charts, found themselves trailing behind. This just goes to show the immense buzz surrounding the "Chiikawa" songs.
Fans were quick to react to the chart results, with comments like, "Because it really makes you want to sing it!", "I keep hearing it from karaoke rooms," and "This year's Japan Record Award is definitely going to 'Usagi Rap'!"
"Chiikawa" continues to prove its massive popularity, not just with box office success and merchandise, but now by taking over the karaoke charts. This adorable crew's incredible influence just keeps growing!
