"The Hunger Games" franchise mainstay Francis Lawrence (pictured below) is gearing up for the Nov. 20 release of the saga's second prequel, "The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping." Before that film hits theaters, however, the director has already lined up another book series for the big screen: sci-fi author Pierce Brown's Mars-set epic, the "Red Rising" trilogy.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Lawrence has signed on to direct the "Red Rising" movie, with "Terminator: Dark Fate" co-writer Justin Rhodes handling the screenplay. Paramount Pictures, now under Skydance, acquired the adaptation rights. Rhodes is also working with Lawrence on the script for Netflix's live-action "BioShock" adaptation.

"Red Rising" takes place in the distant future, where civilization on Mars is governed by a color-coded caste system and the Golds rule from the top. The story follows Darrow, a young miner born into the Reds, the lowest class in society, whose sole purpose is to perform grueling physical labor. After witnessing the death of the woman he loves and discovering the truth behind his people's existence, Darrow infiltrates the Gold caste in a bid to bring down the entire system from within.
