Kokamumo’s four-panel manga Null Meta has officially landed a TV anime adaptation, with its premiere scheduled for sometime in 2027. The announcement was made on October 18 alongside the main production staff and a new teaser visual.

Null Meta began serialization in Houbunsha’s four-panel manga magazine Manga Time Kirara MAX in 2020. The series was nominated for the 2023 Next Manga Awards and currently has six collected volumes.
The story follows four second-year high school students: android Kurumi Uozumi; her guardian, Chiaki Souen; the cool and fiercely independent Sakina Agoshi; and Shiyuki Takada, the group’s only voice of reason—or so she claims. Together, they stumble through a wildly unpredictable version of everyday life.
Described as an “alternative slice-of-life” series that pushes far beyond the genre’s usual boundaries, the manga is finally making the jump to animation and bringing its offbeat cast to life on screen.

Kai Ikarashi, the director of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 and an animator known for his bold, distinctive visual style, will make his TV anime directorial debut on the series. Animation production will be handled by Soigne, the studio behind mono and Botan Kamiina Fully Blossoms When Drunk.
Shin Ogasawara, who worked on the Pokémon Sword and Shield original web anime Pokémon: Twilight Wings, will oversee character design. Tatsuya Takahashi, whose credits include The iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls, will handle series composition.

Commenting on the adaptation, creator Kokamumo said, “A huge, colossal thank-you to every reader. I can’t wait for the day when Kurumi and the others’ awkward, ridiculous, lovable, and energetic everyday lives can finally be shared with everyone through animation.”

Director Kai Ikarashi added, “It feels like something is about to begin. With that premonition in the air, it came walking over the hill—and it turned out to be Null Meta. I’ll work hard to create an entertaining anime for everyone. I hope you’ll look forward to it.”

Billing itself as “the singularity of slice-of-life anime,” Null Meta promises a strange new spin on the girls’ everyday misadventures. Fans of Houbunsha’s signature slice-of-life comedies will definitely want to keep this one on their radar.
For now, only the TV anime adaptation and its planned 2027 premiere have been confirmed. The voice cast and exact broadcast date will be announced at a later time.
