Sony PlayStation has been a no-show at E3 since 2019, and after E3 2020 was canceled, they officially confirmed they wouldn't be participating in E3 2021. So imagine the collective eyebrow-raise when the main promotional video for E3 2021 dropped, prominently featuring a render of a PlayStation controller.
Even though plenty of PlayStation games were set to appear at the show, Sony itself wasn't officially exhibiting. Just hours after the initial upload, eagle-eyed viewers noticed the first promo video had been quietly updated. The PS DualSense controller was gone, leaving only Nintendo Switch, Oculus Quest, and Xbox Series X|S consoles in the spotlight. Despite the quick re-edit and re-upload, the internet had already done its thing, with thousands of sharp-witted fans pointing out the gaffe and sparking a viral conversation.
And yes, those same keen-eyed gamers also spotted that the video on Facebook had been swapped out too, fueling even more chatter.
