Japanese company X-PLUS recently announced a brand new sub-line, "GIGANATIC DEFOREAL (tentative)", expanding on their popular "DEFOREAL" series. The inaugural release for this new line will be "Godzilla (2016)" from the movie "Shin Godzilla", with a release date yet to be determined.
The "DEFOREAL" series is known for its approximately 2.5 head-to-body ratio, bringing beloved kaiju from Japanese tokusatsu productions to life. While the squat proportions give them a charming appeal, the overall design doesn't lean into a fully chibi aesthetic. Instead, it faithfully recreates the realistic, biological textures seen in the films, meticulously sculpting features like rough skin and sharp claws.
As its name suggests, the newly announced "GIGANATIC DEFOREAL" series boasts a significantly larger size compared to standard DEFOREAL figures. The unpainted prototype for the first entry, "Godzilla (2016)", has now been revealed. This larger scale allows collectors to appreciate the intricate details, from its rough, bitter-melon-like skin and menacing facial expression to its bizarrely shaped tail tip.
