Following the 2019 releases of the EVA Unit-01 and EVA Unit-02, the highly popular "METAL BUILD" die-cast toy series from BANDAI SPIRITS' TAMASHII NATIONS division has finally officially announced the long-awaited "METAL BUILD Evangelion Unit-00 / Unit-00' (Kai)" today (the 19th)!
The EVANGELION Prototype Unit-00 was NERV's first-ever EVA prototype, piloted by Rei Ayanami. Originally not intended for combat, Prototype Unit-00 was not equipped with any weaponry. It was previously frozen after a berserk incident, only to be reactivated and deployed in battle during "Operation Yashima." During the operation, it was heavily damaged while protecting Shinji, and was subsequently modified into the combat-ready Unit-00' (Kai), equipped with additional armaments.
The "METAL BUILD Evangelion Unit-00 / Unit-00' (Kai)" continues the series' signature style, with mechanical design and supervision by Ikuto Yamashita (山下いくと). Based on the concept of a "giant with steel muscles," and incorporating METAL BUILD's characteristic pursuit of functional design details, the figure utilizes die-cast metal in numerous joints. Complemented by intricate metallic paintwork, the overall frame and 'musculature' feature armor designs that more closely resemble a true 'weapon.'
This highly anticipated Unit-00 release introduces newly designed portable batteries, a recoilless rifle, and other features. External additions include combat goggles and leg-mounted weapon racks. It combines substantial, rigid armor, die-cast metal joints, and complex structural designs. The exceptional die-cast articulated joints allow for a human-like range of motion, enabling dynamic and elaborate poses that complement its intricate armor structure!
Armaments include an electromagnetic rifle, electromagnetic rifle magazines, a Progressive Knife with sheath, and a recoilless rifle. Also included are a hangar-style display base, interchangeable shoulder parts to configure Unit-00, portable batteries, and an umbilical cable. Additionally, new shoulder parts are included for use with Unit-01 and Unit-02, allowing for diverse display options!
