The emperor's might returns! BANDAI SPIRITS' Collectors Division is set to unleash a special 20th Anniversary Edition of the iconic "Mazinkaiser" (マジンカイザー) as part of their acclaimed "Chogokin Damashii" series. This GX-75SP release, a special version of a previously released model, is slated for April 2022.
Fans of Go Nagai's "Mazinger Z" universe are undoubtedly familiar with its powerful mechs. Mazinkaiser itself first made its debut in the video game "Super Robot Wars F Final." In its initial game lore, Mazinger Z was depicted as an evolved form, transformed after being exposed to Getter Rays. Later, in "Super Robot Wars Alpha," its origin was retconned to be the very first Mazin machine built by Koji Kabuto's grandfather, Juzo Kabuto, which was sealed away due to its overwhelming and uncontrollable power.
Mazinkaiser's popularity, stemming from its video game origins, led to a dedicated OVA anime series in 2001. This Chogokin Damashii GX-75SP Mazinkaiser is a special release, specifically designed to commemorate the 20th anniversary of that iconic OVA.
The GX-75SP boasts several distinct upgrades over its predecessors. Most notably, its entire exterior is finished with a stunning electroplated coating, giving Mazinkaiser an incredible metallic luster and a premium feel. For its weaponry, Mazinkaiser's signature special move, the Kaiser Blade, has been dramatically enhanced: the blade itself is enlarged by 20% and also features the same electroplated finish, making it look even more formidable.
Furthermore, a brand-new, exclusive display base is included, sculpted to resemble a rocky terrain and adorned with a stylish nameplate featuring the OVA anime's logo. Additional parts allow the base to connect seamlessly with the Mazinkaiser figure. This isn't just any display stand, though; it also features a special function! Once batteries are installed and the switch is flipped, it will play the iconic theme song, "Mazinkaiser no Theme" (マジンカイザーのテーマ), as performed by the legendary Ichiro Mizuki!
