MECHA SMILE, Japan's popular brand for model kits, today announced the latest addition to its "MODEROID" series: the AV-2 Valiant from "Patlabor 2: The Movie," slated for an August 2022 release.
Developed by Shinohara Heavy Industries, the AV-2 Valiant served as the new primary Labor for Special Vehicles Section 2 after the retirement of the AV-98 Ingram. While incorporating new weapon systems, its overall design maintained the distinctive style of the Ingram. To improve durability, the vulnerable head antenna was relocated to the shoulder, and to preserve the integrity of the front armor, pilots now entered the cockpit from the rear. Unfortunately, in the film, the Valiant was tragically destroyed by rebel attack helicopters while still in its hangar.
The "MODEROID AV-2 Valiant" model kit features multi-color molded parts and intricate sculpting to faithfully recreate its sleek head, shoulder patrol lights, and other iconic details. For the first time in the MODEROID line, the chest cockpit hatch is rendered with clear acrylic parts. Its arsenal includes a Revolver Cannon, a Stun Stick (both long and short versions), and a dedicated shield. Interchangeable parts are also included to display the wrist guard. The kit comes with water-slide decals for various body markings, allowing collectors to recreate Unit 1, 2, or 3.
