Bandai Spirits Hobby Division in Japan announced today that the highly anticipated model kit, the "RG 1/144 God Gundam," originally slated for a June 2022 release, has been delayed to August 2022 due to various reasons.
Hailing from "Mobile Fighter G Gundam," the God Gundam is the successor mobile suit piloted by protagonist Domon Kasshu. It stands out among many Gundam series as a unique, martial arts-focused protagonist machine, boasting powerful and iconic moves like the Bakunetsu God Finger and Sekiha Tenkyoken, making it incredibly popular. This latest release, the "RG 1/144 God Gundam," further emphasizes the RG line's widest range of articulation to date, capable of recreating dynamic and powerful poses. Upon opening pre-orders, the kit sold out instantly, with prices on the secondary market soaring to upwards of 15,000 or even 20,000 JPY before its official release.
Following the announcement of the delay, many Gunpla builders expressed disappointment about the two-month wait. However, some also believe that if Bandai's decision is aimed at increasing production to combat rampant scalping, it would be met with positive reception. While the official reason for the delay has not been disclosed, it's clear that Bandai is currently facing numerous challenges, including widespread scalping, production capacity unable to meet market demand, and fluctuations in international crude oil prices.
