Released by BANDAI CANDY, the confectionery toy division of Japan's Bandai Co., Ltd., the "Souzou Galleria" (想造ガレリア) series, which transforms the fantastical machines from Studio Ghibli's animated worlds into exquisite collectibles, will re-release the highly sought-after item from Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind: "Möwe & Nausicaä (2023 Ver.)"! The suggested retail price is 8,800 JPY, with an estimated release in March 2023.
Released in 1984 and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, the classic Japanese animated film Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (風の谷のナウシカ) tells the story of a highly advanced industrial civilization that collapsed after the "Seven Days of Fire" war, leaving the earth's surface covered in toxic substances and past civilizations in ruins. A millennium later, the world is covered by the "Sea of Corruption," and the surviving humans in the remaining small territories face the threat of the miasma-emitting toxic forest and giant mutated insects.
Nausicaä (ナウシカ), the 11th princess of the Valley of the Wind, is a survivor of the Seven Days of Fire. She possesses a warm and kind heart, intelligence, and the ability to communicate with animals and even the Ohmu; in legend, she is known as "the one clad in blue."
The "Souzou Galleria Möwe & Nausicaä (2023 Ver.)" is based on the 2019 version, materializing the jet-powered glider "Möwe" (メーヴェ) that Nausicaä frequently uses in the film. It features mechanical details and deployment mechanisms not visible in the movie, and is equipped with internal LED lighting effects. Paired with the articulated Nausicaä figure, it recreates the iconic scene of her soaring through the sky.
The 2023 version features new paintwork and coloring on the inner frame of the Möwe. Additionally, Nausicaä's shoulder and elbow joints have been improved, allowing for more natural and easier posing. It can also be displayed with the separately sold "Souzou Galleria Torumekian Heavy Trooper & Yupa" to recreate scenes from the film!
