Oh-ami Inc., operator of Japan's largest hobby shop amiami, has recently announced the 2022 top 20 best-selling character figure products based on its own sales data for its "Annual Character Figure Awards".
Unlike previous years where all products were ranked together, this year's rankings are divided into two categories based on target audience, product sophistication, and price range: the "Scale Figure Division" and the "Mini Figure Division". The Scale Figure Division is defined as 1/7, 1/8, and other scale character figures that are not chibi, super-deformed, or otherwise stylized. This includes products featuring intricate details in a compact size, deluxe backgrounds, articulated parts, or even massive sizes exceeding 50 cm, representing high-quality, high-price-point character figures. The Mini Figure Division is defined as palm-sized, chibi, or super-deformed figures. These often come in extensive series with a wide variety of characters and are typically in a lower price range, making them easily accessible for beginners.
In the Scale Figure Division, the top spot for 2022's best-seller was claimed by Japanese manufacturer ALTER's "Fate/Grand Order Berserker/Miyamoto Musashi 1/7 Scale Complete Figure". This swimsuit version of Miyamoto Musashi was sculpted by prototype artist Fuyushi Tanaka, who masterfully captured her cheerful smile, dynamic hair, and voluptuous curves in a bikini. According to amiami, this figure received a massive number of pre-orders upon announcement, thanks to its captivating physique, the substantial feel of the sword and gun, and the intricately detailed accessories. After its release, the high quality of the final product also attracted many customers to purchase it directly.

Meanwhile, the Mini Figure Division was conquered by Japanese manufacturer MEGAHOUSE's "G.E.M. Series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Palm Size Rengoku-san". This product captures the Flame Hashira's dignified yet gentle presence in a compact, palm-sized form. Riding the whirlwind of popularity from the "Mugen Train" movie, it achieved astonishing sales. amiami stated that the figure's accessible price point and easy-to-display pose led to a flood of orders.

The remaining rankings are as follows. Japanese manufacturer ALTER dominated the Scale Figure Division's TOP 10, securing five spots and proving that their extremely high-quality standards continue to be recognized by fans. The Mini Figure Division was overwhelmingly dominated by various "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba" products from the Bandai family. However, the popular character Anya from "SPY x FAMILY" also rode the wave of the anime's popularity, securing the 2nd and 5th spots with her Nendoroid and G.E.M. Palm Size figures, respectively.
