Japanese model manufacturer Kaiyodo recently announced the latest product in its new capsule plastic model series, 'ARTPLA', the 'Researcher & Tyrannosaurus Set', scheduled for release in July 2023.
'ARTPLA' is a series of unpainted plastic models sold as capsule toys or standalone kits. It inherits Kaiyodo's long-standing philosophy of "model as art" since its establishment, as well as the PLAMOKEI (プラモケイ) GK kit series that captivated the Japanese model scene in the 1980s. The series aims to connect Kaiyodo's past, present, and future. In addition to releasing models of current trending works and themes, it also plans to faithfully reproduce Kaiyodo's past GK masterpieces. Moving forward, it will uphold Kaiyodo's spirit, offering a vast array of products across various fields like a museum or art gallery, including Buddhist statues, sci-fi mecha, characters, animals, dinosaurs, art, yokai, tanks, culture, and more.
The 'Researcher & Tyrannosaurus Set' is a collaborative effort by multiple sculptors including Shinobu Matsumura, Taro Murai, Honami Mizuta, and Nendo Seijin (RYO). Like the previously released animal series, it adopts a 1/35 scale, meticulously reproducing the forms of an adult Tyrannosaurus, two juvenile Tyrannosauruses, five researchers, and beef using injection-molded parts. Notably, the Tyrannosaurus sculpted by Shinobu Matsumura, after multiple mold adjustments, thoroughly recreates details such as the eyes, full-body skin texture, and feathers.
