Japanese capsule toy manufacturer TOYS CABIN Co., Ltd. (株式会社トイズキャビン), in collaboration with Japanese modeling studio Iwashi Kinzokuka (@nagiasa61), following the release of the "Crab Tank" last year, is set to release its sequel, the "Crab Tank Series 2: Anti-Aircraft Calappa" (蟹戦車2対空カラッパ) capsule toy, in September 2023!
Iwashi Kinzokuka specializes in creating works based on marine life, including reproducing various crustaceans like shrimp and crabs using metal materials, metal cutlery sets combining dried fish with spoons, and crab tanks equipped with various heavy machine gun armaments. This "Anti-Aircraft Calappa" was one of the pieces that the editor personally hoped would be brought to life in 3D after the initial "Crab Tank" gashapon news was released. Not only does it boast a significant total length of 9.2 cm, but its approximately 20 points of articulation offer an expanded range of motion compared to its predecessor. It can also retract its claws to display a defensive posture unique to the Calappa crab!
The sculpting fully showcases Iwashi Kinzokuka's design characteristic of combining crab carapaces with heavy mechanical armaments, creating a tough, hardcore appearance that blends realistic biological feel with mechanical allure. This time, the Calappa crab's even larger claws significantly enhance the visual impact of this piece! Among the four color schemes—military green, battleship gray, desert tan, and albino—there are distinct styles that either emphasize a living creature's gradient feel or a more pronounced military hardware aesthetic. The rich details of the main body, coupled with the 23mm anti-aircraft machine gun, are truly incredibly cool!
