Japanese figure manufacturer GOOD SMILE COMPANY's affordable pre-painted figure series 'POP UP PARADE' announced the latest product from "Evangelion: New Theatrical Edition", "Asuka Langley XL size", scheduled for release in January 2024.
The PVC pre-painted figure series 'POP UP PARADE' boasts several features such as an accessible uniform price of 4,800 JPY, quick release after announcement, and a display-friendly size of 17-18 cm. The character sculpts are relatively basic and refined, simply showcasing the character's design. The overall color application is also of a certain standard, but no special accessories or effect parts are included, positioning it between prize figures and standard PVC scale figures. The "XL size" introduced in recent years further magnifies the regular version's sculpt to a 40 cm scale, allowing for a powerful display of each character's charm.
The "POP UP PARADE Asuka Langley XL size" adopts the same sculpt as the regular version released in January 2023, bringing to life Asuka from "Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time" after the EVA curse is lifted and her body, stagnant for 14 years, instantly matures. The various color blocks of the plugsuit and the high-gloss surface are meticulously crafted. Although the edges of the torn holes are somewhat too neat, the layering and the skin tone underneath are faithfully reproduced, allowing for appreciation of the sexy torn plugsuit look in a satisfying approximately 40 cm height.
