Psycho-Frame Power-Up! Japanese Artisan Unveils Jaw-Dropping MGEX Unicorn Gundam Ver.Ka Diorama!

Gunpla builders are always looking for ways to make their kits stand out, whether it's through custom paint jobs, intricate modifications, or weathering effects.

We've previously featured the incredible diorama work of X ( @Easy_Gunpla ), who transformed Bandai's MG 1/100 Zeta Gundam Ver.Ka into a stunning 3D masterpiece. Now, he's back with another perfect candidate for his unique vision: the MGEX 1/100 Unicorn Gundam Ver.Ka. By integrating glass crystals and LED lighting, he's given this Gunpla an awe-inspiring presence that has once again blown away netizens.

The MGEX 1/100 Unicorn Gundam Ver.Ka was the inaugural release in Bandai's "MGEX" series, and it caused quite a stir when it first dropped. We bet many of you backlog kings and queens still have one sitting in your pile of shame – have you built it yet, or what?!

Beyond the 3D diorama concept, the real highlight of this build is the meticulous crystal design on the Unicorn Gundam itself. Using emerald-toned glass crystals of varying sizes, he's layered them onto the mobile suit, creating an effect straight out of the anime. He even used UV resin to bond three different colors of these delicate glass crystals together.

This was also the most challenging part of the build. Sticking those tiny crystals, especially three different colors, without them looking out of place and ensuring they complement the mobile suit, is tougher than it sounds. Patience is key here; he could only attach a few at a time, waiting for the adhesive to cure before repeating the process. Crafting just one arm took about 5 to 6 hours – talk about a test of mental fortitude!

He also tinted resin to create the Psycho-Frame field behind the Unicorn Gundam, embedding lighting components within it. When illuminated, combined with the mobile suit's crystal parts, the whole piece just radiates an entirely different level of awesome.

Ethan mentioned that the entire project took him about three months, with a significant chunk of that time dedicated to the intricate details. Despite the challenge, he absolutely loves bringing his Gunpla creations to life this way. Beyond the inherent appeal of the MGEX Gunpla itself, the resin work and electronic lighting effects truly make this build shine.

Honestly, this kind of Gunpla customization is incredibly rewarding, and the diorama combined with the electronic lighting effects is seriously captivating.
