BANDAI SPIRITS HOBBY Division of Japan has announced today that the latest product from the theatrical film "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM", the "HG 1/144 Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam", from the most diverse 1/144 scale Gunpla "HG (High Grade)" series, is scheduled for release in May 2024.
The mobile suit piloted by protagonist Kira Yamato, the ZGMF/A-262B Strike Freedom Gundam Type II, is a new machine developed using the latest technology from Morgenroete, after the "Strike Freedom Gundam" was shot down following a failed terrorist attempt to seize it half a year before the main story of "FREEDOM". While its external appearance hasn't changed significantly, all its armaments, except for the high-energy beam rifle, have been updated. Notably, it secretly houses a powerful "Convergent Heavy Nuclear Beam Cannon" in its forehead, but due to its excessive destructive power and high energy consumption, it cannot be used in this form.
After combining with the new enhanced equipment "Proud Defender" piloted by Lacus, forming the ZGMF/A-262PD-P Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam, it can disperse nanoparticles via brainwave transmission and unleash a wide-range, powerful high-voltage current to destroy enemy mobile suits. Simultaneously, the strongest weapon hidden in its head, the "Convergent Heavy Nuclear Beam Cannon," can also be utilized. Furthermore, to counter enemy mobile suits with strong beam resistance, the unit is equipped with a sharp physical sword, the "Futsunomitama."
The "HG 1/144 Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam" is produced using Bandai's latest color separation and part division technology. Its characteristic gold frame parts are rendered with a realistic metallic gloss finish, and the physical sword "Futsunomitama" utilizes two types of surface processing to express textural differences. It also features the "SEED Action System," which allows for classic poses from the Gundam SEED series, enabling dynamic battle poses from the show through flexible joint designs such as double joints in the forearms and independently swinging hip joints for the legs.
The new equipment, "Proud Defender," can be detached from the back for independent display. Each part of its wings not only features movable designs for up, down, front, and back articulation, but the 8 white wings can also deploy their external armor, creating a glowing effect with 3D metallic stickers applied internally. The deployed state of the forehead beam cannon can be reproduced by swapping parts. Armaments inherited from the Strike Freedom Gundam, such as two beam sabers, two beam rifles, and a beam shield, are also included as accessories. By deploying the waist-mounted railguns, the classic "Full Burst Mode" can also be recreated!
