BANDAI SPIRITS Hobby Division of Japan recently announced that the event-exclusive product "MG 1/100 Wing Gundam Zero EW [CROSS CONTRAST COLORS / CLEAR PURPLE]" from "Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz" will be sold at the Bandai Plastic Model Festival "HYPER PLAMO Fes.2024", held from March 22-24, 2024, at Makuhari Messe in Japan. The suggested retail price is 7,150 JPY (tax included).
XXXG-00W0 Wing Gundam Zero EW is the successor mobile suit to protagonist Heero Yuy, designed by mechanical designer KATOKI HAJIME for the OVA series "Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz". Its status is equivalent to the Wing Gundam Zero from the TV anime version. The EW version features significant modifications to its design and color scheme compared to the TV anime version, particularly the back wings, which were changed to more distinctive and organic-looking white feathered wings. These not only greatly enhance mobility but can also envelop and protect the fuselage to form the "Atmospheric Entry Mode". Its main weapon is also the familiar "Twin Buster Rifle", capable of destroying an entire space colony with a single shot at maximum output.
This product is identical to the limited item previously sold at Bandai's official flagship store in China last year. The "CROSS CONTRAST COLORS" in its name refers to the fusion of various materials such as monochrome, clear, metallic colors, and decals with Bandai's researched Gunpla technology, creating a brand new effect that starkly contrasts with the original image. The Wing Gundam Zero EW, which resembles an angel in the original work, transforms into a fallen angel with its body eroded by darkness in this series.
The kit is a modification of the "MG 1/100 Wing Gundam Zero EW Ver.Ka" released in 2020. The entire model primarily utilizes clear purple molded parts to represent the armor and wings tainted by darkness, while some red parts use glossy metallic molded colors to enrich the layering and convey a sense of menace. The product also includes newly designed water-slide decals, depicting the eroded red patterns and evil aura on the armor surface.
The remaining mechanisms are identical to the regular version. Under the complete supervision of KATOKI HAJIME, the joint designs have been thoroughly inspected and verified. The shoulders feature pull-out joints, and the wrists have pegs for the Twin Buster Rifle after sliding the armor open, allowing for more stable posing when wielding the Twin Buster Rifle. The thighs, knees, and calves are equipped with sliding mechanisms, maintaining a high range of motion and interlocking with the armor when bent, making the sculpt and poses more natural. The signature weapon, the "Twin Buster Rifle," features a foldable mechanism, allowing it to be stored within the back wings when folded. Furthermore, the Wing Gundam Zero EW is given a newly set "NEO BIRD Mode" transformation mechanism, capable of reproducing both "Atmospheric" and "Space" modes.
