BANDAI CANDY, the Shokugan division of Japan's Bandai Co., Ltd., recently announced the latest product from the popular assembly model Shokugan series "SHOKUGAN MODELING PROJECT", the "Layzner MARK II" from the anime series "Blue Comet SPT Layzner", scheduled for release in August 2024.
The Layzner MARK II is a successor unit developed by the Earth forces, based on the SPT-LZ-00X Layzner piloted by protagonist Eiji Asuka. It inherits features such as the Layzner's combat gauntlets and laser weaponry, while simultaneously boasting enhanced overall performance and a fighter jet transformation mechanism designed with reference to SOLOMCO. The "V-MAX" system, which could instantly release the unit's limitations to boost performance, has also been upgraded to the higher-performance "V-MAXIMUM". This unit was originally intended to be protagonist Eiji's final ride in the anime, but due to various funding issues, the anime was cut short, and it never officially appeared in the show. Later, the regret of Eiji piloting it could only be realized in media such as the "Super Robot Wars" game series.
The "SMP Layzner MARK II" utilizes multi-color molded parts to construct its approximately 10 cm tall body. Sharp armor lines are made with PS material, while strong movable joints are crafted from ABS material, reproducing the characteristic transparent green canopy on the head and the blue and white armor coloration. Its weaponry includes a laser rifle that can be mounted on the backpack, a movable laser gun on the wrist, and reinforced gauntlets connected to the fists.
Of course, this Layzner MARK II also features a transformation mechanism to reproduce its flight form, and it is a complete transformation that requires no part swapping. When transformed into a fighter jet, its total length is approximately 127 mm. The nose can also deploy landing gear, allowing the fighter jet to maintain balance and be displayed independently.
Furthermore, it can be equipped with the grenade launcher from the separately sold "SMP Layzner (Design Art Ver.) & Backpack Set" for customization, and can also be combined with the effect plastic sheets from the separately sold "SMP New Layzner & Zakarl Skewed Universe Set" to recreate the "V-MAXIMUM" system activation state.
