TAMASHII NATIONS, the collector's toy division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Co., Ltd., recently announced the release of the popular alloy toy "Soul of Chogokin" commemorative product "GX-31SP Super Electromagnetic Machine Voltes V CHOGOKIN 50th Ver.", scheduled for August 2024, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the "Chogokin" brand.
"Super Electromagnetic Machine Voltes V" is one of the robot romance trilogy directed by anime director Tadao Nagahama. In the story, to prevent the Boazanian Empire from invading Earth, Dr. Kentaro Go assembled a team to develop the super robot "Voltes V" to counter the giant battle machines "Beast Fighters" dispatched by the Empire. At the same time, five righteous youths were recruited to join the defense force for a year of rigorous training, allowing them to pilot the Voltes Cruiser, Voltes Bomber, Voltes Panzer, Voltes Frigate, and Voltes Lander, respectively. When the five machines form a V-formation and shout "LET’S VOLT IN!", they combine into the mighty force "Voltes V" to save Earth.
While "GX-31SP Super Electromagnetic Machine Voltes V CHOGOKIN 50th Ver." uses the GX-31V as its base, similar to the Chogokin 40th Anniversary edition released in 2015, and also states that it uses anime color tones, there are still some modifications to the color scheme. The biggest difference is that the silver armor parts of the machine have been changed to a mirror-finish silver plating that can collect fingerprints. The nose of the Voltes Cruiser has added white lines to pay homage to the POPYNICA version, and the lower half of the Voltes Bomber's elbow joint has been changed to the same blue as the forearm, among other changes.
Other mechanisms and armaments are basically the same. It can reproduce the transformation and combination mechanism of the five Voltes machines, the connection mechanism between the back and the Hawk Fighter, and can also reproduce the "Voltes Heavy Tank" form. The armaments include the "Tenkuken" (Heavenly Sword), Super Electromagnetic Whip, Super Electromagnetic Tops, Voltes Bazooka, etc., and a dedicated weapon storage rack is included.
