The dinosaur-themed model kit series 『PLANNOSAURUS』, released by the HOBBY Division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Company, has announced its latest product from the Cretaceous period, "Parasaurolophus", slated for release in July 2024.

Appearing as the ninth installment in the series, the "Parasaurolophus" is believed to be a herbivorous dinosaur that lived in the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 73 million years ago. Since its fossils were first discovered in North America in the early 20th century, it has become a widely recognized hadrosaur, frequently appearing in modern film and television works. In addition to the characteristic beak-like mouth of hadrosaurs, the massive crest extending from its nasal cavity to the back of its head has become the Parasaurolophus's signature feature. The character '櫛' (jī) in its name means 'crest.' However, to this day, various theories and hypotheses exist regarding the purpose of this crest, such as sound amplification, heat dissipation, and more.

The "PLANNOSAURUS Parasaurolophus" can be assembled without the need for nippers or glue. The parts not only feature precise and meticulously researched sculpting but are also divided into two layers: skeletal and outer skin. After assembly, you can choose to display it in either its fossil state or dinosaur state. The forelimbs, hindlimbs, neck, and tail all feature articulated joints, allowing for subtle pose changes for display. The detailed sculpting faithfully recreates features based on mainstream theories, with the head's bone and outer skin parts interchangeable between two forms: a male with a larger crest and a female with a smaller crest. It also reproduces the neural spine protrusions on the back, resembling an iguana, and the characteristic pre-pubic process of ornithischians.
