Independent designer toy company Seismic Toys' Ultraman soft vinyl series "Ultraman Vinyl Odyssey" recently unveiled a new product based on the 2022 film "Shin Ultraman" – the "Shin Ultraman Gomess Grey Limited Edition" soft vinyl toy. The suggested retail price is US$160, and pre-orders will be open on the Seismic Toys official website from March 25th to April 25th, with an estimated shipping date in Fall 2024!
In the film "Shin Ultraman," the Giant Unidentified Lifeform No. 1, "Gomess" (ゴメス), appears immediately after the movie title. It originates from the first episode of the 1966 black-and-white tokusatsu TV series "Ultra Q" (ウルトラQ) produced by Tsuburaya Productions. Gomess was accidentally awakened during human tunnel excavation. It possesses a ferocious personality and dislikes camera flashes. Ultimately, it was defeated in a battle with the subsequently appearing primitive monster bird "Litla," and both perished together. Hideaki Anno's version of Gomess utilizes a modified 3D model from the "Shin Godzilla" film, corresponding to the original "Ultra Q" setting where the Gomess suit was a modified Godzilla suit!
This "Shin Ultraman Gomess Grey Limited Edition" stands approximately 24 cm tall and features 5 points of articulation, faithfully recreating Gomess's brief appearance in the "Shin Ultraman" film. The rough texture of Gomess's skin is meticulously sculpted, and the paintwork captures the reddish hue of skin stretched almost to breaking point, reminiscent of Shin Godzilla. Details such as the sharp spikes on its back, the horns on its head, and the pointed claws on its hands and feet are all reproduced, showcasing the powerful oppressive presence of Giant Unidentified Lifeform No. 1!
Seismic Toys aims to bring unique toy collectibles to all toy enthusiasts, therefore, products are not re-released once launched. All interested collectors should take note not to miss the pre-order period!
