Japan's Bandai Co., Ltd. Candy Division BANDAI CANDY, to commemorate the upcoming special exhibition of its SMP [SHOKUGAN MODELING PROJECT] series, "SMP UNION", to be held on July 28, 2024, at the Wonder Festival 2024 [Summer] venue, today announced the latest commemorative product from "Super Robot Wars OG", the "R-1 Kai". This product will only be available for pre-order on PREMIUM BANDAI and for limited sale at the event booth on the day.
R-1 Kai first appeared in the fighting game "Super Robot Spirits" released in 1998, and did not appear in the main "OG" series. This unit's setting is that after the SRX was severely damaged, the R-2's Tronium Engine and R-3's T-LINK System were transplanted to the R-1, resulting in a redesigned unit that combines the agile size of a small machine with the high performance brought by alien super-technology. This unit later reappeared in "Super Robot Wars Alpha Gaiden", though its setting was changed to a machine excavated from ruins in a future world.
The "SMP R-1 Kai" is a modification based on the previously released R-1&R-GUN version. The molding colors of the main body's blue, red, yellow, white, and gray parts, as well as the pre-painted parts and stickers, have been changed to the deeper tones of its "Alpha Gaiden" appearance. Furthermore, the spacer parts for the waist and abdomen, and the connecting parts for the front skirt armor, have been improved, enhancing the leg's range of motion compared to the previous version.
For accessories, the original "G. Revolver" has been replaced with newly produced "GT. Revolver" parts, including three types for shooting and striking. Even the "Tenjo Tenge Nen-Do Hasai Ken Effect Parts," originally sold separately, are now included. Other parts remain the same as the standard version, including the head with glowing eyes, Cold Metal Knife, Boosted Rifle, and green fist parts to recreate the "T-LINK Knuckle." The R-1 Kai main body can also reproduce its transformed flight form, "R-WING Kai."
