To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the registration of "Nikko Toshogu Shrine," dedicated to Tokugawa Ieyasu, as a World Heritage Site, and with the hope that plastic models can contribute to the revitalization of Nikko City, BANDAI SPIRITS Co., Ltd.'s HOBBY Division in Japan today announced that the Gunpla commemorative product "MG 1/100 Musha Gundam Mk-II Tokugawa Ieyasu Nanban Do Gusoku Ver." will be dedicated to Nikko Toshogu Shrine and will be pre-sold at Nikko Toshogu Shrine starting May 27th this year. This product is also planned for future sales at THE GUNDAM BASE, PREMIUM BANDAI, and various event venues.
There are three Toshogu Shrines located throughout Japan, built according to the will of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first shogun who founded the Edo Shogunate, after his death. Later generations deified him as "Tosho Daigongen" and enshrined him. Among them, Nikko Toshogu Shrine in Tochigi Prefecture is the head shrine of Japan's three major Toshogu Shrines. In addition to its extremely magnificent "Yomeimon Gate" and world-famous "Three Wise Monkeys" and "Sleeping Cat" carvings, it also houses a treasure museum containing items used by Ieyasu during his lifetime. This site is not only a Japanese national treasure, but in 1999, along with Nikko Futarasan Shrine and Nikkozan Rinnoji Temple, it was registered as a World Heritage Site, "Shrines and Temples of Nikko."
However, how is a shrine dedicated to Tokugawa Ieyasu related to Gundam models? Perhaps you can read our special feature: 【Toy People Cold Knowledge】Why did Shizuoka, Japan become the model world capital? The reason is not Gundam, but Tokugawa Ieyasu
The "MG 1/100 Musha Gundam Mk-II Tokugawa Ieyasu Nanban Do Gusoku Ver." is based on a modified version of the previously released regular edition. The golden armor parts throughout the body have been changed to a new black-based molding color, representing the "Nanban Do Gusoku" armor worn by Tokugawa Ieyasu during the Battle of Sekigahara. The red areas on the chest, kusazuri (skirt armor), and other parts are reproduced with washi paper stickers, while the triple-hollyhock crests on the shoulders and chest are reproduced with glossy stickers for a luxurious texture. Many parts of the main body and weaponry have also undergone black plating and chrome plating to enhance their metallic feel.
