Released by Japan's GOOD SMILE COMPANY, the popular "Nendoroid" series, which boasts over a thousand different products, has announced its latest item from the classic anime "Astro Boy": the "Nendoroid Astro Boy" articulated figure. It has a suggested retail price of 6,100 JPY and is scheduled for release in January 2025.
Osamu Tezuka's "Astro Boy" (鉄腕アトム), the first long-running serialized work by the grand master of Japanese manga, was created in 1952—a post-war period when Japanese society was highly averse to atomic energy. The humanoid robot "Astro Boy" appeared as a charming manga character. The story tells of Dr. Tenma, who, heartbroken by the loss of his son, creates the boy robot Astro Boy in his son's image. However, upon realizing that a robot could not replace his son, he sells him to a circus. Later, Dr. Ochanomizu repairs and adopts him, exploring themes of robot emotions and the imagination of human technology. Astro Boy not only spearheaded the rise of the Japanese animation industry but also became an ambassador for the peaceful use of atomic energy.
The "Nendoroid Astro Boy" articulated figure faithfully recreates the classic Astro Boy in a more chibi proportion and design. It features glossy paintwork on the hair, red boots, and other details to create a sense of varying material textures. The slight blush on his cheeks is incredibly adorable! Additionally, it includes interchangeable face plates such as a "shy face" with a bashful smile and a "crying face" showing distress. These can be combined with various hand parts to enjoy a multitude of interesting scenarios. His signature "rocket boots" come with jet effects, allowing you to recreate Astro Boy's classic soaring pose in the sky!
