The popular co-op hunting game series "Monster Hunter," celebrating its 20th anniversary, today announced a collaboration with Bandai Toys' legendary LCD toy "Digimon Virtual Pet" from the "Digimon" series. They unveiled a cross-over collaboration product, the "Digimon Virtual Pet COLOR Monster Hunter 20th Edition (Rathalos Color / Zinogre Color)," which is scheduled for release in February 2025.
The two color variations of the "Digimon Virtual Pet COLOR Monster Hunter 20th Edition" are designed with the appearance and color schemes of Rathalos and Zinogre, respectively. The casing features full printing on all sides, giving them cool patterned designs. The hardware specifications are essentially the same as the reissue released for Digimon's 25th anniversary, featuring a color LCD screen and USB Type-C charging capability. It can even connect with previously released COLOR series devices for cross-over Digimon VS Monster battles!
The software, on the other hand, is a unique version specifically created for "Monster Hunter." Including Rathalos, Zinogre, Rajang, Nargacuga, Khezu, Mizutsune, Tigrex, and Gore Magala, it features a total of 36 monsters to raise, including normal versions, subspecies, and deviant versions. Users can also change to classic "Monster Hunter" backgrounds such as Volcano, Desert, Snow Mountain, and Tower. During battles and victories, 8-bit versions of "Proof of a Hero" and other sound effects will play!
This collaboration also invited Mr. Kenji Watanabe, the soul designer of the "Digimon" series, to draw original collaboration-exclusive monsters. These can also be raised in the Digimon Virtual Pet. They are "ReusGreymon (レウスグレイモン)", which fuses the images of Rathalos and Greymon, and "ZinogreGarurumon (ジンオウガルルモン)", which fuses Zinogre and Garurumon.
