Last September, Universal Pictures announced plans to bring the classic mystery series "Murder, She Wrote" to the big screen. Screenwriters Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, known for "Dumb Money," were tapped to pen the script, with "Spider-Man" franchise producer Amy Pascal overseeing the project. Now, over a year later, a lead actress has finally emerged.

According to an exclusive report from Deadline today, Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis is Universal's top choice to star, potentially taking over the iconic role of Jessica Fletcher from the late Angela Lansbury.
In the original television series, Fletcher was a retired English teacher who became a bestselling mystery novelist, often solving real-life crimes in addition to those in her books. Over a decade ago, NBC attempted a reboot starring Octavia Spencer in a new role, but the project was ultimately canceled after nearly a year in development.
