Japan's ACRO company, which has collaborated with numerous renowned sculptors to release many exquisite kaiju figures, will be launching a new Ultraman-themed product under its "Kaiju Remix Series" (KRS) in collaboration with the highly popular toy designer and artist James Groman. This new item is the "Red King" (Reddo Kingu) soft vinyl figure, with a suggested retail price of 25,000 JPY, scheduled for release in May 2025!
The "Skull Monster" Red King first appeared in Episode 8, "The Lawless Monster Zone," of Ultraman, which aired in 1966. It is a powerful monster that inhabits Tatara Island alongside monsters like Chandora, possessing astonishing arm strength. It excels at stone-throwing attacks, headbutts, and charges, utilizing its formidable arm power. Its nature is extremely ferocious, even killing the smaller Pigmon with a stone attack.
Upon receiving ACRO's invitation, James Groman unhesitatingly accepted. Combining his lifelong love and understanding of the Ultraman series with his unique style, he has reimagined one of his favorite classic monsters, Red King! This Red King soft vinyl figure stands approximately 30 cm tall, sculpted with its Michelin Man-like physique, and given even more ferocious fangs and robust arms. The rough texture details inside and around its gaping maw are truly astonishing!
For the paint application, a light brown serves as the base, with darker shading in the skin's crevices to enhance the overall three-dimensionality. The small pupils in its yellow eyes make it appear even more menacing, while the yellowish paint on the edges of its claws and fangs conveys a realistic biological feel, powerfully showcasing Red King's charisma with a strong stylistic approach!
