But recently, the master of fright showed a surprisingly different side on social media, dropping a super "cold" pun about the globally beloved gaming franchise, Pokémon. The verdict? It seems his humor might not be as sharp as his prose.
Over on BlueSky, King posted a lighthearted joke, asking: "Why can't you play hide-and-seek with Pokémon? Because they always 'Peek at you' (Pikachu). I know it's not very funny, so ignore me."
King's "dad joke" played on the phonetic similarity between the iconic Pokémon character "Pikachu" and the English phrase "Peek at you." He clearly knew it wasn't exactly a knee-slapper, even adding a self-deprecating disclaimer, as if bracing for the inevitable.
Unsurprisingly, the post quickly sparked a flurry of reactions online. While some fans found it endearing to see the horror maestro's lighter side and embraced the humor, many others weren't shy about pointing out that his joke-telling skills don't quite measure up to his literary genius.
