BANDAI CANDY, the Shokugan division of Japan's Bandai Co., Ltd., has announced the latest products from their popular assembly model Shokugan series 'SHOKUGAN MODELING PROJECT', featuring items from the classic robot anime 'Gunbuster' (6808). The products, "Gunbuster" and "Invincible Gunbuster Option Parts Set (Once It Becomes Flame)", are scheduled for release in August 2025.
Gunbuster is a superluminal, versatile, large-scale transforming and combining mechanical weapon developed by Coach Koichiro Ohta. It is formed by the combination of two single-person space battleships, possessing an astonishing 240-meter height that defies common sense, and two extremely powerful Buster Reactors. It can unleash overwhelming power to perform various martial arts and utilize various armaments against space monsters. The protagonist, Noriko Takaya, serves as the main pilot, and through her extraordinary "effort" and "perseverance," she enables Gunbuster to achieve almost invincible strength, capable of executing powerful moves such as the Super Inazuma Kick.
The "SMP Gunbuster" is produced based on the anime's design and body proportions. Once assembled, the kit can form Buster Machine 1 and Buster Machine 2. In addition to being displayed individually, it also features a transformation and combination mechanism, allowing it to form the approximately 23 cm tall Gunbuster without needing to swap parts or having any leftover parts.
The combined Gunbuster inherits the design experience previously applied to the "SMP AD Gunbuster". While maintaining a cool physique, it also boasts flexible articulation. Through designs such as movable shoulder armor splits and double joints in the elbows and knees, the limb joints can be posed flexibly. Paired with two pairs of larger, sculpt-focused hands, it can recreate poses for executing the "Super Inazuma Kick" and "Homing Laser".
"Though each is a faint spark, when united, they become a raging inferno. The Gunbuster, once it becomes a raging inferno, is invincible!"
Additionally, Bandai is simultaneously releasing the "SMP Invincible Gunbuster Option Parts Set (Once It Becomes Flame)" for use with the main unit on their official online store, PREMIUM BANDAI. The product includes a set of replacement parts focused on appearance, which can enlarge the head antenna and foot proportions while reducing the backpack's thickness. It also includes crossed-arms parts to recreate the "GAINAX Pose" during sortie.
Furthermore, it includes sculpt-focused hands to recreate the RX-7 landing on the palm, replacement parts to reveal the chest frame and Buster Reactor during the final battle, replacement parts to recreate the "treads" on the soles of the feet, "Homing Laser emitters" on the fingertips, and the classic move "Double Buster Collider" with expanded limb armor. Also included are a non-woven fabric "cape," and unused in-show armaments such as the "Buster Bat" and "Buster Axe."
