Japanese gashapon manufacturer Kitan Club (キタンクラブ) announced the release of the popular second series, "Kaeru no Mori Kobo Lucky Frog Strap ~Earth Color Series~," following last year's popular product, "Kaeru no Mori Kobo Lucky Frog Strap," launched in collaboration with Japanese frog model studio Kaeru no Mori Kobo (カエルの森工房)! The suggested retail price is 400 JPY per capsule, and it is scheduled to be released in late April 2025!
Kaeru no Mori Kobo is a frog model studio located in Fukushima, Japan. The founder began creating and selling frog-themed illustrations and sculptures in 2001. Each year, they conduct field research in mountains and forests to create even more exquisite frog-themed models. In Japanese, "frog" (カエル, Kaeru) is a homophone for "to return" (帰る, Kaeru), thus "Lucky Frog" (無事カエル, Buji Kaeru) carries the meaning of "safe return"!
The Lucky Frog gashapon combines the creator's usual hobby of mountain climbing with frogs. Wearing hiking boots, carrying a huge backpack, and with hands on hips, their appearance is incredibly cute! Following the first series which featured four colors with climbing ropes and backpacks, this second series draws inspiration from Japan's magnificent nature, with color schemes named after elements from Japanese mountain scenic spots personally visited by the creator. It offers four styles: Kusa Momiji (Grass Autumn Leaves), Caldera, True Sky, and Lichen Moss. In addition to the green frog from the first series, there are two new light blue variations. The ropes are provided in low-saturation green and blue to match the frog's colors, and similarly, the climbing rope is cleverly threaded through the gap between the frog and its backpack, avoiding any metal clasps that would disrupt the overall aesthetic!
