BANDAI SPIRITS HOBBY Division, known for its comprehensive lineup of Gunpla "HG (High Grade)" series that faithfully recreate mobile suit designs from animation, has announced the commercialization of the protagonist mobile suit from the new manga series "Mobile Suit Gundam EIGHT", the "HG Gundam Zilius". A prototype will be unveiled for the first time at the "63rd Shizuoka Hobby Show" on May 14, 2025.
The new manga series "Mobile Suit Gundam EIGHT", which was teased several years ago as a 20th-anniversary commemorative work for Monthly "Gundam ACE", is finally set to begin serialization in the August issue, releasing on June 26, 2025. The story is penned by Hajime Kamoshida, who previously contributed to the script of "Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans", while the artwork is handled by Hideki Takagi, known for illustrating the manga version of "Mobile Suit Gundam: Battle Operation Code Fairy" and the novel illustrations for "Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury".
The story is set in an original world view, separate from other Gundam series, in Eternal Era 2030. Earth's humanity once believed that the flourishing development of science and biotechnology would liberate them from war and suffering, leading to eternal prosperity. However, the very cradle of human civilization, "Earth," was ultimately destroyed by human hands, leaving only 258 survivors and a single "Gundam."
The design for the protagonist mobile suit, "Gundam Zilius (ガンダムジリウス)", has also been revealed in advance. This mobile suit was designed by illustrator KANEKOZ [kanesys], who has drawn numerous Gundam illustrations for "Gundam ACE". Its overall design appears to fuse styles from several Gundam works, featuring a Gundam Frame reminiscent of the "Iron-Blooded Orphans" series, arm styling akin to the "00" series, a head antenna similar to "TR series" mobile suits, and back equipment that evokes the "C-Funnels" of the Gundam AGE-FX. We eagerly anticipate how the HG Gunpla will faithfully reproduce this feature-rich design.
