Danish toy company LEGO recently unveiled an exciting new product on its official website: the "40787 Mario Kart – Spiny Shell", set to launch simultaneously on May 15, 2025, with the "72037 Mario Kart: Mario & Standard Kart"! However, the acquisition method is not the familiar gift-with-purchase, but rather through redemption with LEGO Insiders points.
May 13, 2025 Update:
The Spiny Shell (トゲゾーこうら), also known as the Blue Shell, is an incredibly powerful item in the Mario Kart video game series that makes seasoned players grit their teeth in frustration and new players instantly rejoice. It's generally an item more likely to be obtained by players in lower ranks, and once used, the Spiny Shell will launch a (mostly) unavoidable attack on the character in first place. You could call it one of the most classic balancing mechanisms in gaming history, but you'd also certainly agree it's one of the most outrageous dirty tricks (laughs)!
This LEGO version of the Spiny Shell consists of 234 pieces, and once assembled, you'll have a Spiny Shell approximately 10 cm long with an excellent design. From the striking white spikes and the white edges formed by tubular elements to the brick-built blue sections, everything is highly anticipated! It will undoubtedly look fantastic displayed alongside the "72037 Mario Kart: Mario & Standard Kart"! However, this set is obtainable by redeeming 2,500 LEGO Insiders points at the Insiders Rewards Center, and there's no further update on availability in Taiwan yet – collectors who want it might need to put in some extra effort.
