From Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Company HOBBY Division, the Gunpla "HG (High Grade)" series, which boasts the most comprehensive lineup of mobile suits faithfully recreating their anime appearances, has officially announced the release of the protagonist mobile suit "HG 1/144 GUNDAM ZIRIUS" from the new manga "Mobile Suit Gundam EIGHT," slated for July 2025. This product will be exclusively sold at the Premium Bandai official online store.
The new manga "Mobile Suit Gundam EIGHT," teased several years ago as a 20th-anniversary commemorative work for Monthly "Gundam ACE," has finally announced its serialization starting in the August issue, to be released on June 26, 2025. The story is penned by Kamoshida Hajime, who previously contributed to the script of "Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans," while the artwork is handled by Takagi Hideki, known for his work on the manga adaptation of "Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation Code Fairy" and illustrations for the novel version of "Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury."
The story is set in an original world view independent of other Gundam series – Eternal Calendar 2030. Earth's humanity once believed that the flourishing development of science and biotechnology would liberate them from war and suffering, leading to eternal prosperity. However, now, "Earth," once the cradle of human civilization, has been destroyed by human hands, with only 258 survivors and one "Gundam" remaining.
The "HG 1/144 GUNDAM ZIRIUS" faithfully recreates the unique exterior of the mobile suit using entirely new molds and multi-color molded parts. It utilizes numerous common standard joint connections for its exterior parts, allowing for free disassembly and reassembly to recreate its light armor form. Furthermore, the mobile suit's body features flexible articulation, and its backpack weaponry incorporates multi-axis and ball joints for multi-directional movement, enabling dynamic battle poses.
Weapon accessories include a Beam Rifle, a Shield, six Beam Saber Hilts, and two Beam Saber Blade Effects. The crystal-pillar-like parts on the back, whose settings have not yet been revealed, are reproduced with clear parts.
