Issued by TAMASHII NATIONS, the collector's toy division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Co., Ltd., the "S.H.Figuarts (Shinkocchou Seihou)" series, which sculpts from the skeletal structure to give tokusatsu heroes their original cool appearance and natural articulation, has announced the release of the commemorative product "Akarenger Super Sentai 50th Anniversary Ver. (with First-Run Limited Pedestal)" from "Himitsu Sentai Gorenger," scheduled for November 2025, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Toei's Japanese tokusatsu "Super Sentai Series."
Aired in 1975, "Himitsu Sentai Gorenger" is the first work in Toei's Super Sentai series. The story describes how the evil organization "Black Cross Army," aiming to conquer the world, attacked the various Japanese branches of the International Secret Defense Agency (Eagle). A large number of members were killed, with only five miraculously surviving: Tsuyoshi Kaijo, Akira Shinmei, Daita Oiwa, Peggy Matsuyama, and Kenji Asuka. Under the special training of Commander Gonpachi Edogawa, they formed the special unit "Gorenger" and launched a counterattack against the Black Cross Army from their secret base in Shinjuku.
The "S.H.Figuarts (Shinkocchou Seihou) Akarenger" is sculpted by prototype master Hibiki Nagashio. The body is gradually sculpted from the bones, muscles, and costume design, with articulation divisions and joint designs then implemented to create a fully poseable figure approximately 14.5 cm tall. Compared to the S.H.Figuarts version released in 2014, the overall design features a more lifelike physique and details closer to the on-screen costume, while the full-body articulation design has also evolved.
Regarding details, this Shinkocchou Seihou version faithfully recreates rich details and color applications such as the high-density viewing slits of varying sizes in the helmet's eyes, the metal buckles on both sides of the jaw, the colors of the five stars on the front of the belt, and the two rows of buckles on the back of the belt.
The figure's articulation design does not compromise its realistic, human-like physique. The cape on the back is made of fabric with embedded metal wires, and the yellow V-shaped line on the chest uses soft plastic material, significantly reducing articulation interference with other parts. The arms alone feature a rich array of articulation designs, including pull-out shoulder joints, ball-jointed parts, two-axis elbow joints, and horizontal forearm articulation, allowing for dynamic poses in conjunction with natural costume wrinkles.
The accessory designs have also evolved compared to the S.H.Figuarts version. The "Mini Rocket Boosters" on both sides of the waist can be directly attached without needing to replace the entire belt. The holster for the "Silver Shot" can reproduce both states: with and without the pistol stored. The "Red Whip" is made with shape-adjustable rope parts and includes a long spear form that is faithful to the original size.
The rugby ball-shaped bomb "Gorenger Hurricane" includes two parts: a normal state for when it's placed on the ground, and a state with deployed fins after being kicked. These can be combined with interchangeable hands and articulated joints to recreate the classic pose of performing the special move "Gorenger Hurricane." Additionally, there's an interchangeable hand holding the "Eye Mask," allowing for scenes where the mask is taken out or used as a weapon.
