The LEGO Icons series from the Danish toy company LEGO announced yesterday (the 12th) its latest product, numbered 10357, the "Shelby Cobra 427 S/C" brick-built model! It is expected to be released on July 4, 2025, with a suggested retail price of US$159.99.
The star of this release is the legendary sports car from the 1960s, the Shelby Cobra 427 S/C, built by Shelby American, a company founded by American racing driver Carroll Shelby. The S/C in the product name stands for Semi-Competition. Originally, Shelby intended for the Shelby Cobra produced under his company to compete in races, but due to changes in the regulations of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), the car was then converted for general road use. Simply put, this Cobra is a dream creation that combines an American muscle engine with a refined British car design.
This set contains a total of 1241 pieces. Once assembled, it measures approximately 30 cm long. LEGO designer Léon Pijnenburg collaborated closely with Shelby American. In addition to faithfully recreating the rounded body, striking grille, and the sloped front, hood, and rear fenders, new 1x4 double-curved elements were incorporated to achieve the overall sleek lines. Coupled with the largely smoothed-out blue body, minimizing visible studs, and the racing-inspired white stripes, the overall look is incredibly cool. Of course, this LEGO car also features a steering system and opening doors, hood, and trunk.
Other accessories include a toolbox, a trophy, a fire extinguisher (echoing its original intent for racing), and two very interesting tribute elements: a $100 bill and a Carroll Shelby signature tile. The origin of the $100 bill is said to be that Carroll Shelby would tape a $100 bill to the dashboard and invite passengers to grab the bill before the car reached 100 km/h. If successful, they could keep the $100 bill. However, according to the Shelby American team, passengers would be pressed against their seats during acceleration, and Carroll Shelby never let anyone get that bill.
