BANDAI SPIRITS Co., Ltd.'s collector toy division, TAMASHII NATIONS, has officially unveiled a new themed product from its popular "Chogokin" die-cast toy series to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the classic film series "Back to the Future" – the "Time Train." It has a suggested retail price of 59,400 JPY and is scheduled for release in December 2025!
The story of "Back to the Future Part III" continues from the second film, recounting how Marty, to save Doc who was accidentally sent to the past and whose life was in danger, once again sought help from the 1955 Doc to send himself to 1885, where he faced the local bully "Mad Dog" Tannen. At the end of the film, as Marty lamented Doc's failure to return to the present with the DeLorean time machine, Doc suddenly appeared before Marty and Jennifer, driving a steam-powered Time Train. After introducing his wife and two children, he once again set off on a new journey through time.
This Chogokin Time Train boasts an astonishing 52 cm length, equivalent to O gauge model railways, making it quite massive. It meticulously captures its brief yet highly impressive appearance, recreating the gull-wing doors from the film, and the dashboard inside the cabin is precisely reproduced based on official data! It can also be converted into flight mode using interchangeable wing parts and retractable wheels at the bottom. When switching modes using the typewriter-style buttons on the base, the LED lights on the underside of the fuselage will illuminate, recreating the jet propulsion effect seen in the film!
Beyond its faithful design, a major highlight this time is that the Time Train lights up! It moves! And it makes sounds! The vehicle body is equipped with 56 LED lights that can be activated to reproduce the glowing effects from the film. The heavily steampunk-styled parts on the train are all designed with electric motors, which will change their rotation speed and direction via gear mechanisms. The white headlights on the sides are also relay-controlled, consistent with the film's setting, and the steam train's exhaust sound will synchronize with the train's activation! Furthermore, it will include mini figures of Marty, Jennifer, Doc, Clara, and their two children for display, making it truly a dream collectible!
