Recently, our editor introduced the upcoming "Mario Kart" & "Super Mario Bros. Wonder" sets from the Danish toy company LEGO, scheduled for release on August 1, 2025. Now, two new "Mario Kart" sets have been announced, numbered 72044 and 72045! Also releasing on August 1.
First, let's look at set number 72044, "Mario Kart – Piranha Plant Power-Up Pursuit". This 588-piece vehicle + buildable character set includes Toadette driving the classic Cat Cruiser and Koopa Troopa in the Tanooki Kart. Both karts, at approximately 12 cm in size, faithfully recreate the in-game vehicle lines – the Cat Cruiser is super cute~! In addition to their respective Koopa Shell launching functions, you can also attach the Piranha Plant included in this set. As the car moves, the Piranha Plant will also move, truly mimicking the in-game acceleration boost scene when using the Piranha Plant item!
Next up is 72045, "Mario Kart – Shy Guy & P-Wing", which uses 249 pieces to build the mysterious yet highly popular character Shy Guy and the low-profile P-Wing kart equipped with standard tires. Once assembled, the P-Wing is approximately 7 cm wide and 14 cm long, with a good level of detail in its vehicle silhouette. The front of the kart also features a Shy Guy head icon adapted for the character, and it's equipped with a glider-style wing. Although the windshield is simply represented by a single purple brick, which might seem a bit crude, upon closer inspection, the color choice makes some sense (chuckles); the brick-built Shy Guy minifigure is very cute, and when paired with banana peels and Koopa Shells, you can create lively racing scenes.
